NEW COURSE!
Residential HVAC System Redesign Certification Course
System Redesign Basics, Renovations and Load Calculations
In this information-packed first day of training, you'll learn the definition of redesign, and what the redesign process entails, from start to finish. After a brief overview, your instructor will dig into the system renovation process which begins with collecting the right field data to be employed in the redesign process. The class will then be given NCI's exclusive PreLoad™ software application that is used to quickly determine the block load of the home, so you can determine if the existing equipment is sized correctly, or if equipment replacement is recommended to properly match the home.
Day 1 Outline:
Introduction to HVAC System Redesign
Understanding the System Renovation Process
Collecting Essential Field Data for Redesign
Performing NCI's Manual PreLoad™ Calculations
Using NCI's PreLoad™ Calculator Software Application
Day 2:
Equipment Selection and System Design Criteria
Day two kicks off with an overview of the principles used to properly select replacement equipment, and dives into how to use NCI's exclusive EQSelect™ equipment selection software application - yours to take home at no extra cost. The class will review the differences between sizing for latent and sensible capacity, and how to really dig into manufacturer's engineering data to determine how the equipment will really perform in the field. You'll also learn how to properly size coils and filters to optimize system airflow, and when to apply industry standard applications to determine room-by-room loads and required airflow.
Day 2 Outline:
Equipment Selection Principles
Introduction to NCI's EQSelect™ software application
Why a 36,000 BTU Load Requires 3-1/2 Ton Equipment
Equipment Manufacturer's Selection Procedures
Static Pressure Budgets for Replacement Coils and Filters
Determine In-Field Room Airflow
Room by Room Airflow Exercises
Day 3:
Final Design, Installation Hand-off, and Test Out
This fast-paced day will lead you to learn how to perform the final redesign and see it through to completion. We begin with learning how to use ESI's exclusive CommonCents™ test-in process to identify critical system faults and their effect on overall performance. The class will then jump into the final redesign phase which includes resizing ducts, fittings and transitions. You'll learn how to select the right registers and grilles to maximize airflow, and put together a final winning design. Then you'll learn how to properly turn your design over to your installation crew, and the elements of performing a final test-out to verify your design is delivering the performance, efficiency, and comfort you promised.
Day 3 Outline:
Identifying System Defects with CommonCents™ Test-in Process
Resizing a Duct System
Resizing a Duct System Exercises
Selecting Replacement Grilles and Registers
Meeting Performance-Based Installation Guidelines
Testing, Adjusting and Certifying the Installation

Residential HVAC System Redesign Certification Course
In this intensive day of training you'll learn to determine the actual Effective Efficiency of any functioning HVAC system. Learn and perform static pressure and temperature diagnostics that will improve your ability to identify the unseen causes of poor system efficiency and performance. Using NCI's exclusive HeatMaxx™ and CoolMaxx™ diagnostic reports, you can open your customer's
eyes to a new dimension in system performance, while creating new sales opportunities for your business. This day is packed with practical hands-on exercises and diagnostic tools.
Building on the skills learned in HVAC Performance Testing, this class focuses on the next level of system diagnostics and rating. NCI's PerforMaxx™ testing will prepare you to take essential air property tests, including external static pressure, pressure drops, airflow traverses, and duct loss. You'll leave equipped with all the necessary testing skills, reference tables and charts, formulas, and engineering data to perform a comprehensive system performance rating report. System renovation sales, proposal writing, and pricing strategies will round out this day, ending with a Residential Air Balancing certification. Certification includes Wall certificate, Wallet certification card, and permission to advertise yourself as NCI Certified.
This third class in the program continues to build on the previous two days by adding advanced system diagnostic testing and interpretation methods. You'll learn practical fan law usage and field application
techniques that will enable you to become certified for up to 25-ton equipment. NCI system redesign methods, balancing specification, and a sample submittal package are also included. Advanced airflow
traverses, room-by-room airflow, and economizer and kitchen exhaust balancing round out this full day.
Special Day 1, Day 2, Day 3 Event Bundle
An optional Light Commercial certification exam is offered at the end of Day 3 for those desiring to add this endorsement to their residential certification. This exam is not included in Day 3 pricing. Both Day 1 and Day 2 must be successfully completed to enroll in this class.
