Getting Started
Registering
Registration is necessary for you to post messages, to use features like sending Private Messages to other members, having a list of friends and being able to see when they are online, and having a profile with a signature, avatar and more information about you. To register, click on the "Register" link at the top of most pages.

Logging In
To log in, click on the "Login" link at the top of the forums or on NCI's main site. Enter your username and password, and press the "Login" button. You may also click on the "Remember my Information" check box to store your username and password in a cookie. Selecting this check box will automatically log you in next time you visit the forums.

Retrieve Password
If you have forgotten your password, click on the link "Forgot your password?" found in the Login page. Enter your username and click on the "Send" button. For security purposes, the IP address of the person who requested the password will also be sent in the email message. This will let you know if someone else is requesting your password and what their IP address is.

Logging Out
To log out, click on the "logout" link at the top of the forums or in the Navigation bar. Logging out deletes your session variables and any cookies that were being used to store your login information.

Moderators
Moderators are members assigned by the Forum Administrator to manage activity within individual forums. They can edit, delete, or move any posts in their forums. Moderators may also be able to ban users from their forums.

Avatars
Avatars are images displayed below your username on all of your posts and on your member profile. You can select the image you want displayed under your username by clicking on the "Control Panel" link at the top of the forums or in Manage account. Edit your profile and at the bottom of the page you will see the option for selecting an Avatar. If you already have an Avatar but do not wish to continue using one, click on the "Pick Avatar" link on your profile. Select the empty square from the Avatars selection page by clicking in the center of it. The avatars selection page should close and you can now save the changes to your profile to stop using an avatar.
Topics
Posting
To post a new message, first find the forum in which you would like to post and click on the "New Post" link at the top of the forum. The following items may be available when you post messages:

Item Description
Title The title of your message.
Topic Icon The Icon that appears to the left of each topic in the topic listing of the forum. Topic Icons can be used to give other users an idea of what the topic is about before they read it. For example, you might use a smile Icon when posting a joke. This option may be turned off by the Forum Moderator.
Your Message The body of your message. You can use Forum Code and HTML to format the text in your message. When Forum Code is allowed, you will see a series of buttons at the top of the message window. You can use those buttons to format your text, like creating lists, bolding text, having text in italics etc. You can also have Smilies in your message.
My Signature Your signature is automaticly added to all your message. Your signature is defined in your profile. If you do not wish to have a signature, edit your profile and leave the signature area blank.
Notify me when someone replies When you select this check box, you will be notified by email every time someone replies to your message.
Create a Poll for this topic Select this check box if you would like to add a poll to your message. You will be taken to the "Create Polls" page after you click on the "Post" button. This option may be turned off by the Forum Administrator.
Attachment Attach a file to your message. This option may be turned off by the Forum Moderator.
Preview Preview your message before it is posted.

Polls
You can create a poll when you post a new topic. To add a poll to your topic simply select the check box that says "Create a Poll for this topic." When the "Create Polls" appears, enter the question for your poll and click the "Continue" button. Enter each answer and select a color for the results bar for each answer. When you have added all of the answers for your poll question, click on the "Finish Poll" button. Users can vote for your poll when they are reading your message by clicking on the "Vote" link on the poll.

Replying
To reply to a topic simply click on the "Reply" Reply button at the top right of the message you would like to reply to.

Editing
To edit a message you have posted, simply click on the "Edit" Edit button at the top right of the body of your message.

Deleting
To delete a message you have posted, click on the "Delete" Delete button at the top right of the body of your message.

Email this topic
Clicking on the "Email this topic" Email this topic Icon allows you to let a friend know about the topic by sending them an email.

Print
Click on the Print Print Icon to print the topic you are currently viewing. To print a text only version of the topic, first click on the "Text Version" Text Only Icon and then click on the Print Icon found in that page.

Text Version
Click on the Text Only Text Only Icon to view a text version of the topic, without the website design.

Messages Thread
Clicking on the "Messages Thread" Messages Thread Icon will show you the thread for the topic you are viewing. The thread displays the order in which replies were posted.

Control Panel

To access your Control Panel, first log in to Powered Forums and click on the "Control Panel" link at the top of the forums.

Inbox
Your Inbox displays a listing of all private messages sent to you by other members. You can click on any of the messages sent to you to read them. When you read your private messages, you will have the options of replying Reply to the sender, deleting Delete the message, adding the sender to your "Friends List" Add Friend and ignoring future messages from the sender.

Forum private messages are different from the actual web site private messages. Although both private message systems work similar, you can only reply to Web Site Administrators on the site. The web site private messages are used to alert members of offers, new products, problems, etc.

Compose
When composing a private message, enter a title, the username of the member you are sending to the message to, type your message and click on the "Send" button. You can use Forum Code to format the text in your message, add an Icon to your message and use Smilies.

Sent Messages
The Sent Messages page has a listing of all messages you have sent to other members. This page will also allow you to delete a message you have sent if it has not been read by the recipient yet.

Friends List
The "Friends List" page has a listing of all members currently in your list of friends, along with their online status and a link to delete them from the list. You can also add other members to your list of friends by entering their username in the "Add a Friend" field and clicking on the "Add Friend" button. Other ways to add members to your list of friends is by looking at their profile or viewing messages they have posted. Clicking on this Icon Add Friend will add them to your list of members. If you do not see that Icon in a members profile or when they post messages, it means that they do not accept private messages.

Ignore List
The "Ignore List" page contains a listing of the members you do not wish to receive private messages from. You can delete members from your Ignore List if you wish to start receiving private messages from them.

Edit Profile
This page allows you to make changes to your profile. After you have made changes to your profile, click on the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the page for the changes to take effect. You can use Forum Code in the "Signature" and "Personal Info" fields of your profile.

Subscriptions
The "Topic Subscriptions" page has a listing of all topics you are subscribed to. You can subscribe to a topic by clicking on this subscribe Icon when viewing topics in the different forums. Once you are subscribed to a topic, you will be notified by email every time someone replies to them. You can use the "Topic Subscriptions" page in your Control Panel to un subscribe from topics.

Functions/Extras
Search
You may search for specific posts based on certain words in the title of body of the message or by username. You can also specify a date, and select in which forum(s) to the search. To perform a search, click on the "Search" link at the top of most pages.

Events Calendar
The events calendar found in Powered Forums allows Administrators, Moderators, members and visitors to post events that can be viewed by other members. The Forum Administrator specifies who can use the calendar. Click on any of the events displayed in the calendar to view the details for that event. When posting an event, the following fields will be displayed:

Item Description
Category Select the event category in which your event should be posted.
Event Title Enter the title of your event.
Short Title Enter a short title for your event. This is the title that is displayed in the calendar. The Event Title is displayed in the details page for your event.
Details Enter the details for your event. You can use Forum Code to format the text in the details window and to add links, email addresses and images.
Event Color Select the color that should be used to list your event on the calendar. You can select a color by clicking on the "Colors" image.
Event Date Enter the date of your event.
Event Time Enter the time your even will take place. You can have an "all day" event or enter a time for your event.

If you post an event and it does not appear in the calendar, it may be because your Forum Administrator needs to approve it before it is displayed in the calendar.

Reports
When viewing different topics you will notice this Icon Report below the author's username. Clicking on that Icon will take you to the "Report Members" page. You can use that page to let the Forum Moderator know if the user is breaking forum rules. Enter a title and the details of your report and click on the "Send Report" button to send it to the Moderator.

Who's Online
On the main page of the forums you may see the number of users that are currently logged in the forums. Click on the "Member(s)" link next the number of online members to view a listing of the members who are online and how long they have been inactive in the forums.

Smilies
Smilies are used to convey emotions when posting messages, such as a smile :) or a frown :(. When posting messages, if smilies are allowed, you will see a series of "smilies" below the message window. You can simply click on any of those smilies to insert them into your message.

Forum Code/HTML Code
Your Forum Moderator may allow you to use HTML or Forum Code in your posts. When posting messages, below the Topic Icons, it will tell you if you can use HTML or Forum Code. Forum Code is similar to HTML, except that there are only a few functions that can be used in your messages or in your signature. Some of these functions include bolding text, creating lists, adding links, inserting images and having text centered. To learn more about Forum Code and how to use it, click here

Censorship
Powered Forums does allow the Forum Administrator to censor words from the forums. If you post a message and find that certain words in your post have been replaced by asterisks (*), this means the words are being censored out of posts.
