Question Category: Carbon Monoxide Safety

Question: I have a different quandary. This is associated with our latest weather disaster in the Chicago area. Generators in a garage or vented crawl space. In driving around I noticed quite a few generators running in a garage with the doors open. Then as I am cleaning up branches in my own yard. I noticed the neighbor two doors away had a generator in the crawl space of a 100 year old home. This crawl had a window they open during operation. It was about 150 degrees F and wreaked of combustion products. I didn't have my co meter with me so I couldn't check the readings. I told the mom (old lady living there) How dangerous it is and called her son that lives in a different home. He basically told me to shove off. I called the Police they came out and talked to her. He did finally move it.

I am wondering if there are any calculations that show how fast and how much CO can build up in a garage or crawl. Or if there is any printed materials that I can use in situations like this.
