Carbon Monoxide: Are You Singing in the Choir or Just Humming?
(Things the Hummers Don't Know)

National Comfort Institute Inc. is proud to announce Jim Davis as presenter at Comfortech 2010. If you've ever taken a CO class from Jim, you know he is one of the industry's foremost experts on CO Safety and Combustion Diagnostics in the country. In this session, he'll dispel myths such as Carbon Monoxide Alarms stop CO poisonings, Fall Clean & Checks prevent Carbon Monoxide poisonings, Cracked Heat Exchangers cause the most amount of CO poisonings, Almost all CO poisoning and deaths have occurred in tight homes, and that Insurance Companies cover CO liability claims. More importantly, he'll help you understand how you can save your customers lives. Don't miss what is going to be a life-saving experience for all attendees! Click Here to Learn More

Question Category: Combustion
Question: Re: combustion analysis question. Ran across an older (1960's) commercial Bryan water tube atmospheric boiler with the following readings. 02 = 9% stable CO= 10ppm stable flue temp = 645 degrees? draft = .05 temp rise across boiler 22 degrees. The high flue temp is what has me scratching my head. everything appears normal. Could this old boiler just be that inefficient? Thanks Joe

Question Category: Air Diagnostic
Question: How can I measure air volume on a system with a 12-inch air sock as the duct? The customer has gone through 2 heat exchangers in three years.

Access Level: NCI Online User
Question Category: Heating
Question: Do you have anything in writing I can share with my customer about High Low fire or staged equipment?

Question Category: Test Instruments
Question: I'm thinking of buying a TSI flow hood. It seems that it will read up to 2000 cfm, but I will be reading values much lower than this that may total 2000 cfm. How accurate is it when reading individual 4" to 9" supply ducts that are no where near the high range? Is it more accurate as the volume of air increases or is uniform accuracy across all volumes? I have read where some lose accuracy at low volume levels. I just want to trust my measurements if I fork out that kind of dough.

Question Category: Air Flow
Question: I recently finished servicing a montgomery ward furnace model # SRM54-4345B 80 BTU. The blower had not been cleaned ever. My before static pressure readings were return .016 supply .041 after cleaning the S.P. were return .042, supply .095. here is my question. The before and after delta T remained at 70 degrees. I expected the temp. difference to drop by some amount say 5 degrees? If I'm moving more air across the heat exchanger why did the temp. reading stay the same? Is this usually the case?

Question Category: CO AND COMBUSTION
Question: We have a customer that has a paint booth type oven that fires on natural gas and is interested in having a combustion analysis done on it. Do you have any suggestions?
